Four Track 10' E.P.

Four Track 10' E.P.

Information

Roy Cousins is primarily known for his vocal group the Royals. But working with Scientist in his prime in the early 1980s he was able to spin out some formidable versions to his excellent vocal productions. These four cuts are awesome. Seismic and heavy - check em out.

Scientist/Roy Cousins — Four Track 10' E.P.

What a great and unexpected release this is, a dub excursion by the sadly underrepresented mixing engineer Scientist. I am pleased to report that not only are they all new to me, but I am also unfamiliar with the original vocal tracks that these dubs version, though I am reliably informed are by Don Carlos, Horace Andy and Gold.

They are exactly as you'd imagine prime Scientist mixes to sound following, as they do, in the rich classical dub tradition of King Tubby and Jammy's. I have been playing all four tracks over and over, though all are equally strong if I had to pick a favourite I would probably choose the forth track - tomorrow it might the third.

It would be nice to think there are enough similar tracks to justify a full CD release of Scientist tracks - and possibly another featuring the vocal originals?

Toussaint L'Ouverture sounds like a version of Horace's 'Something On My Mind' from the 'Horace Andy - Showcase' lp on Vista produced by Tad Dawkins. A great album.

This is a killer dub 10 inch.

One side is two different dubs of the title track "Plantation" by Don Carlos.
There was a showcase album with that title issued on CSA Records, featuring Don Carlos & Gold.

The flip side has a dub of "Pretty Baby" by Gold from the same "Plantation" album.

It also has a dub of "Something's On My Mind" from Horace Andy's "Showcase" album released on Tad's (later re-issued by Vista Sounds).

Thanks Pressure Sounds for another fantastic release.

Michael Rose's distinctive tone gets on a re-working of Yabby's a King Pharoah's Plague rhythm. Nicely done by King Jammy and comes with a nice dub on the flipside. Excellent.

  • The Inturns - Nothing is Impossible (extended mix)The Inturns Nothing is Impossible (extended mix)

An excellent extended mix by Phil Pratt of The Inturns 'Nothing is Impossible'. First released on a Chanan Jah 12' in the mid nineteen seventies. The Inturns recorded an album and several singles for Phil Pratt before returning to the their original name The Viceroys. Extended mix of 'Detour' on the flipside. Comes in a hand stamped bag. Crisp.

  • Junior Brown - What a disasterJunior BrownWhat a disaster

Three cuts of Junior Brown/ Phil Pratts 'What a disaster'. The rhythm was recorded in Jamaica by Sly and Robbie and was part of the Dial M for Murder lp. The Junior Brown vocal was voiced in the UK and released on The Mystic label. We have an extra mix added to the Pressure Sounds release by The Disciple. A killer release that comes in a hand stamped bag made out of re-cycled card.

Genius from the master Don Drummond. Ably backed by Lennie Hibbert on vibes on 'Reload' on the A side. On the flipside the more frantic 'Little Willie' by Clue J & his Blues Busters. A pretty good pressing but check the sound clips before you buy.
