In the early 70's a shop called Lasco's Music Den opened on Lower Clapton Road in Hackney. By the end of the decade it had changed it's name to Regal Records. For many years the shop was one of countless in London to sell Reggae vinyl to soundmen and collectors alike. Sadly the new century wasn't kind to Regal Records and like so many others others it was eventually forced to close it's doors for good.

Tighten Up invites you to a special tribute to Regal Records at the Silver Bullet on Saturday 7th May. Joining us on the decks will be two of the shops best know proprietors - Eddie Regal and Trevor Sax.

Both Eddie and Trevor have made their names by playing tunes as well as selling them so expect a 100% guaranteed rewind session with both selectors drawing pure choon to get your heart pumping and your feet moving. People will talk about this session for years to come... REACH!!!

  • Bunny Lee & Friends - Tape RollingBunny Lee & Friends Tape Rolling

In 1971, despite his run of hits, Bunny Lee was still having to support himself with freelance producing at Dynamic Sounds, but by 1974 he was fully independent and poised to dominate Jamaican music in the mid 70’s. The tracks on this compilation capture that moment of transition, when the smaller ghetto producers were taking over from the older musical establishment.
Listening to Bunny’s unreleased master tapes, what bursts out of the speakers is the energy and excitement of the whole production process, from the studio chatter of the musicians to the sonic experiments at the mixing desk. These pioneering steps in deejaying and dub were the launch pad for remix culture and the core production techniques of today, a creative explosion that altered the shape of our popular culture.

In the words of I Roy, “Striker Lee, him have the key!
